See the photo above? I've posted it before, it is man's first successful flight, on 17th December 1903 at Kitty Hawk (Kill Devil Hills, to be more precise). Orville Wright at the controls of the machine, lying prone on the lower wing with hips in the cradle which operated the wing-warping mechanism. Wilbur Wright running alongside to balance the machine, has just released his hold on the forward upright of the right wing. The starting rail, the wing-rest, a coil box, and other items needed for flight preparation are visible behind the machine. It is a great photo, a photo which makes me wish I had been there, wish I could have seen Wilbur's face, was he smiling? was he worried? And how about seeing the flyer from another perspective, say from the front instead than from behind? I need a time-machine!! The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn (Michigan) doesn't have a time-machine but they have tried quite hard so all of us can be there at Kitty Hawk on 17/12/1903. See below. This time, I was the photographer at Kitty Hawk and got an extra Wright brother.
