A post mostly for Spanish speakers... I found this website : Los Icos where one can download the famous quiz games in Excel. Yep, those games where there are cartoon drawings of musicians and tv characters and you just type their name in the cell below and you get a 'Right' or 'Wrong' answer. Well, I found those in Spanish. And then trying to solve the last quiz I found this other website : Te acuerdas . It is a database of Spanish tv series, books, publicity, films, fashion...from the past. For those with nostalgia for the past who would like to relive moments from their childhood and youth. As for myself, I have always thought the 'good old times' are crap. There's nothing like the present and even better, the future! what's going to happen tomorrow? I would never go back to the past. I mean, 'my' past. What for? I've already been there!

Si ya he estado alli!

A work colleague told me tomorrow he is going to Manchester. He added Manchester must be the worst city in the world. Obviously, that was an exaggeration. But is there a list of 'best' and 'worst' cities of the world? Who does that ? The answer came immediately : The Economist does(I should have imagined that). And from their last list in September 2004, as The Guardian reported, I can now reveal that the Worst City in the World is (again) Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. The Best City in the World is Melbourne in Australia.
I've never been in Port Moresby. SD was there several years ago for work reasons and could not see much of the place..because work colleagues advised avoiding visits to the place and limit contact with the outside world to taxi trips from the hotel to the office and from the office to the hotel. Both of us have been to Melbourne, though. It was nice. But I think I'd rather live in Sydney . Or much better, Auckland in New Zealand!

The Economist, como no!).

I am normally quite happy to use Google and allow them to install their cookie on my computer. I had never carefully thought about the implications. I did today. What may happen to all this tracking in the future, say if the US government (where Google is based as a company) were to ask Google to surrender their database for 'national security purposes', for instance ? Google knows a lot of what we do every day. Through our browsing it is possible to create a profile of each of us. What if this were to fall in the wrong hands? Today I read a detailed and very rational explanation of all this in iMilly . The same website offers readers the possibility of becoming anonymous to Google by using the GoogleAnon system. I have installed it. Just in case... I had forgotten that Firefox users can in fact stop cookies from installing themselves in our system....by using the Tools>Options>Privacy>Cookies!. A detailed explanation on how to do it step by step can be found here : Everything is under control . A very similar procedure can be used with Explorer, by the way. I know. I have not invented anything new. It is just that I tend to forget all the things we can do and control and still I forget them...

Some years ago I didn't have any strong opinions about daffodils. What's more, I pro bably did even like them, as they were strange to see at the flowershops in my city. This changed when I arrived in the UK. Spring comes and... all you see is daffodils everywhere. What's the problem, you will think. The problem is there are many varieties of daffodils. Many colours. But it seems that here, (almost) ALL daffodils are yellow! It's been a long and grey winter and it's lovely to see the many colours of spring...but what many colours, if everything around me is yellow!!??? And let me tell you..of all the colours in the rainbow, I just plainly HATE yellow! With all my guts! Some days, when winter has been specially crude, I tolerate all this yellow explosion. A very scarce number of days. And you know...today is NOT one of THOSE days!!! Today I would just rip off all the daffodils, with my bare teeth, hands and feet! Rip them all off!!! What happened to red, blue, pink, orange, violet??? There are more colours in the world apart from yellow, for heaven's sake!!!

There are a couple of sporting events I have not missed in the past five years. One is the America's Cup . More on this in 2007, where the next competition will take place in Valencia. I just hope Team New Zealand wins and the Cup goes back to Down Under. The other sporting event I like to watch takes place tomorrow in Aintree, UK. It is the Grand National. It is such a chaotic, fast and difficult race that non-experts have all the chances of making big money at betting. Any horse can win. The favourites will probably not make it half the course. It is fast and furious! This means the non-experts have it easier to bet and maybe make big money. The first step for me is to have a look at the horses list here: BBC . Then decide on a horse or horses to bet for. Or maybe...just look away and let your finger fall on a name. It may work, with this race!

Yesterday evening we went to the Two sides of the Moon lecture by writer and former astronaut Dave Scott . It was a very lively and interesting lecture. For an hour we heard detailed and clear explanations on the space race, the Gemini missions, Apollo missions and Moon landings. Two sides of the Moon is also the title of the book that Dave Scott and cosmonaut Alexei Leonov have written together. It is an account of the space race between the US and the USSR seen from both sides. There was a time when this book would have been unthinkable. Both countries were enemies and pitched against each other to be the first to land in the Moon. The US got there first but as Dave Scott told us, if the Russians had been a bit less cautious, they may have been the first! Their cosmonauts are living legends just as the US astronauts.

In fact, I realised if there are living legends and people we call 'heros' I was listening to one of them. For there was a time when a few men were risking there lives to go to space, when landing in the Moon was a dream. And Dave Scott was one of them. He happened to make a little remark on having a bit of a problem while Neil Armstrong and him were coming back to Earth aboard the Gemini VIII . A bit of a problem? I watched the chapter on the Gemini missions, the first on the tv series From the Earth to the Moon. What really happened was not a bit of a problem. Armstrong and Scott may have died up there. They reacted on time and managed to stop the Gemini capsule from spinning, getting out of course and probably killing them. If Scott had not had the idea to use the reentry control system to stop the capsule spinning, let me tell you this, Dave Scott would have not been yesterday in my city and Neil Armstrong would have NOT been the first man on the Moon. This is what I mean when I say yesterday I met a living legend and a hero.

After the Gemini missions Dave Scott went on to particpate in the Apollo IX mission and was the 7th man to land on the Moon in 1971 with the Apollo XV mission.

I read in the newspaper: "From now on, Leonardo da Vinci's famous Gioconda , also known as Mona Lisa, will occupy a new spacious room in the Louvre . Arrangements for this new situation have taken 4 years and been sponsored by a Japanese tv channel. The mysterious smile of one of the most celebrated paitings in the world will be installed in a 840 square metre room completely renovated by Peruvian architect Lorenzo Piqueras. Two hundred square metres will be exclusively dedicated to The Gioconda, avoiding the long queues seen until today at the Louvre. It will be easier for visitors to admire the work of art as the 25mm protective glass has been replaced by a 13mm and the painting will hung at a 13 metre height from the floor with special lights.

And I say : At about time! As I saw it when I visited the Louvre, The Gioconda's situation was disastrous. At the end of a long corridor, hung high up in the wall, hidden behind a horrid thick and dirty glass, full of reflections with awful lightning. Any improvement will be welcomed! ON the other hand, I don't see why we had to wait until a sponsor offered to pay to have this work done. The Louvre charges a hefty admission charge and receives millions of visitors every year. Considering most of them visit the museum just to see the Gioconda, I think the Louvre's has been a greedy and miserly behaviour!

I was looking from my office window and I thougth I building was moving! An earthquake!!! Horror!!! Then I realised the building was between two other buildins which didn't move... so it ended up my 'moving building' was between and behind the other two and it was... the top part of a ferry arriving at the city's harbour. Considering I didn't have any ideas for today's post, I think I have got away with it right now, he he...
