Today it's Halloween. It has been cloudy, it has been rainy, it has been sunny. And it has even been sunny and rainy, which was beautiful. Sometimes horrid things (like rain) can be beautiful - as when it's sunny and rains at the same time. - You can even get a rainbow! Just like the rainbow I can see from my office now, here at the top floor of the building. Tim Burton is a director who can turn ugly and scary things into beautiful things. One of my favourite films by Burton is The Nightmare Before Xmas which I recommend you to watch. Or read the draft script here .A very appropriate film for tonight!Halloween, Halloween!!


Hoy es Noche de Difuntos. El dia ha estado nublado, lluviouso y soleado. Incluso ha llovido mientras brillaba el sol, algo que siempre me ha parecido muy bonito. A veces ciertas cosas horribles (como la lluvia) pueden ser bonitas - como cuando llueve y brilla el sol al mismo tiempo. - Incluso puede ser que se vea un arco iris! Justo como el arco iris que veo desde la ventana de mi oficina, en el ultimo piso del edificio. Tim Burton es un director que excele en convertir lo feo y que da miedo en belleza. Hungry burglar robs Kerikeri (New Zealand) takeaway
A burglar stole $500 of chicken, beef and pork from a Chinese takeaway in Kerikeri - and ate a bowl of scraps left for the owner's dog. On Monday, 243 anchovy tins in Spain. On Tuesday, 440 left foot shoes in Japan. Today, scraps for the dog in New Zealand. I hereby officially open the Surrealistic Robbery International Week. Go and steal something original or in absurd quantities. You won't regret it. I went to the park and tried to steal a squirrel, but the damn animals were too fast and children were pointing at me and starting to laugh. So tonight I will steal my neighbour's rubbish bag!!


Ladron hambriento roba en restaurante de comida para llevar en Kerikeri (Nueva Zelanda)
Un ladron robo pollo, ternera y cerdo por valor de 500 NZ dolares de un restaurante chino de comida para llevar en Kerikeri - y se comio un plato de sobras guardadas para el perro del propietario. El lunes 243 latas de anchoas en Espania, el martes 440 zapatos del pie izquierdo en Japon, hoy las sobras del perro en Nueva Zelanda. Con placer declaro inaugurada la Semana Internacional del Robo Surrealista. Vayan y roben algo original o en cantidades absurdas. No se arrepentiran! Para dar ejemplo, he intentado robar una ardilla del parque, pero las malditas eran demasiado veloces y los ninios ya me estaban senialando con el dedo y empezando a reirse. Tokyo. - The Japanese police arrested a 45 year-old man who stole 440 left foot women shoes.

According to the police, Ichiro Irie was arrested Saturday after stealing their shoes to two women at the entrance of an hospital of the Japanese city Usa. In many Japanese hospitals it is obligatory for visitors and patients to change their footwear to slippers before entering the facilities. The Usa hospital contacted the police after receiving complaints of the mysterious dissappearance of shoes for two years. "In the registry made in his house we found 440 left foot shoes", informed a police spokesperson, wo added that Irie confessed to have been the author of these robberies. My my...anchovies yesterday, shoes today...some people have very strange obsessions...

Según informo la policia, Ichiro Irie fue arrestado el sabado tras quitarle a dos mujeres sus zapatos a la entrada del hospital de la ciudad japonesa de Usa. En muchos hospitales japoneses es obligatorio que tanto las visitas como los pacientes cambien su calzado por unas babuchas antes de entrar en sus instalaciones.
El hospital de Usa contacto con la policia despues de haber recibido quejas durante dos años por la misteriosa desaparicion de zapatos. "En el registro realizado en su casa encontramos 440 zapatos del pie izquierdo", aseguro un portavoz de la policia, quien añadio que Irie confeso haber sido el autor de estos robos. Ayer eran anchoas, hoy son zapatos del pie izquierdo. Que obsesiones tienen algunos!!

Thieves steal 243 anchovy tins and police catches them while eating sandwiches.

Two men and a woman who stole 243 anchovy tins and 5 whisky bottles from a supermarket were caught by the Catalan Police (Mossos d'Esquadra) last Wednesday in Blanes (Costa Brava). An undercover policemen observed the thieves breaking in and phoned the police headquarters with their description and car plate number. Later on, the police found the car and caught the thieves while their were eating anchovy sandwiches. Right, I love anchovies but this seems a bit too much!!

Los Mossos d'Esquadra (policia autonomica catalana) detuvo el miercoles en Blanes (Costa Brava) a dos hombres y una mujer que habian sustraido 243 latas de anchoas y cinco botellas de whisky de un supermercado de Lloret. La actitud de los detenidos fue observada por un agente fuera de servicio que facilito la descripcion de los ladrones y la matricula de su coche a la policia. El coche fue encontrado mas tarde con sus ocupantes comiendo bocadillos de anchoa. A mi me gustan las anchoas, pero nunca he llegado a ese punto!!!

And today we'll lose it forever. I've never flown in Concorde and now I will never be able to do it. Instead of developing the technology and cutting down on Concorde's prices, we discard it. Right, now we've started, why don't we discard the internet and start sending letters again? why don't we scrape all cars and use again horses and carts? I don't understand it. Why is the Cocorde taken away from us? For a whole summer, I saw Concorde flying over London every Sunday afternoon. And every time it was thrilling to see it, even if it wasn't flying at supersonic speed. Concorde, we'll miss you!

From where I am sitting now I can see the less used item in this office : the fax machine. Dear good old fax machine. We may receive a fax every three months nowadays. Our fax machine enjoys an almost total retirement in its corner. We keep it just in case. Just in case of what, I wonder. Nowadays it's email, isn't it? Ah, but thirteen years ago it was so different! Nobody had ever heard of email and internet. And the fax machine was a wonderful invention, we thought! Hundreds of faxes were sent and received every month. We did not have to wait for the daily post anymore. No more long and expensive phone calls abroad. We had our fax machine! We also had jammed paper, old documents looked like crap and we had to dial again and again because the lines were always busy. Dear good old fax machine..enjoy your retirement because I am not going to use you anymore. This has been your epitaph. Long live the internet!


Desde mi mesa veo el instrumento menos usado de la oficina. El fax. Querido y viejo fax. Probablemente recibimos un fax cada 3 meses, hoy en dia. Nuestro fax disfruta de su jubilacion en un rincon de la oficina. No lo retiramos del todo por si acaso. Por si acaso, que? me pregunto yo. El email es lo que hay, no? The easiest to bake and also my favourite biscuits : Anzac biscuits
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup plain flour
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup dessicated coconut
2 tbsp. golden syrup
1/2 cup. butter
1/2 tsp. bicarbonate of soda
1 tbsp. boiling water
Pinch salt


1. Mix oats, flour, sugar and coconut together.
2. Melt syrup and butter together.
3. Mix soda with boiling water and add to melted butter and syrup.
4. Add to dry ingredients.
5. Place tablespoonfuls of mixture on greased slide.
6. Bake 15-20 mins. at 180° degrees Celsius or 350° Fahrenheit.



Mis galletas preferidas y son facilisimas de hacer: Anzac biscuits!

1 tacita copos de avena
1 tacita harina
1 tacita azucar
3/4 tacita coco rallado
2 cucharadas soperas melaza
1/2 tacita mantequilla
1/2 cucharadita bicarbonato soda
1 cucharada sopera agua caliente

1. Mezclar avena, harina, azucar y coco
2. Derretir mantequilla y melaza juntas
3. Mezclar bicarbonato soda con agua y, rapidamente, aniadir a mantequilla/melaza
4. Aniadir lo anterior a los ingredientes 'secos' (numero 1) y mezclar bien
5. Tomar cucharaditas de la mezcla final y colocar en bandeja para horno (previamente engrasada con mantequilla)
6. Hornear de 15 a 20 minutos a 180 Celsius o 350 Fahrenheit.

We watched this film on videotape a couple of nights ago : Deathwatch. I am not linking to the official website because the link is broken and you will only get 'file not found' on your screen. Anyway..what is Deathwatch about? Well, it is a War film combined with Horror Film. Basically, the plot is... and here I am copying&pasting :" At the height of the terror of WW1, the few survivors of an English regiment, trapped behind enemy lines, take refuge in a deserted German trench, waiting to be rescued. But when no help arrives, one by one they begin to suffer mysterious and gruesome fates. Slowly, a terror beyond all human understanding is unleashed. Is the trench possessed by something even more terrible than the war that surrounds them or does some other unknown evil wait to claim them all?...." Now, when I said it is a War film combined with a horror film..in my opinion it fails from both sides. It fails as a horror film because it doesn't really scare the audience. And it fails as a war film because the FX are poor and the trench war is not well documented. Right, the trench is very impressive, it looks like a maze. But that's all. When the bombs exploding are clearly fireworks then you realise they have not spent much money on this film. When you see the soldiers' strategy to protect the trench it is clear to you that nobody has done any proper research on WWI. Unless you are very interested in following the professional career of 'Billy Elliot's child-actor, don't bother with this film. It's boring.


Vimos este film en video hace un par de dias : Deathwatch. El link a la pagina oficial esta roto, solo se encuentra el famoso "file not found". Quiza se les acabo el presupuesto...porque, en general, a esta pelicula le falta eso, prespuesto, y ademas, buena documentacion historica. Intenta ser un combinado de film belico + horror. No funciona. Basicamente, el argumento es : " Durante el horror de la Primera Guerra Mundial, los supervivientes de un regimiento ingles, atrapados detras de las lineas enemigas, se refugian en una trinchera alemana abandonada, esperando ser rescatados. Pero la ayuda no llega y uno a uno, los soldados sucumben a misteriosos y horribles muertes. Lentamente, se desencadena un terror mas alla del entendimiento humano. Esta poseida la trinchera por algo mas terrible que la guerra que les rodea o es algun ser maligno el que les acecha?..." Mi opinion es que la combinacion film belico-horror no funciona. Los efectos especiales son tan pobres que, cuando una bomba explota, se ve claramente que son fuegos artificiales. Ademas, la estrategia para defender la trinchera demuestra una falta total de conocimiento en estudios belicos. Y no da miedo en absoluto. A menos que tengais un gran interes en saber que hace actualmente el chico de 'Billy Elliot', no recomiendo este film. Para nada. Puro aburrimiento.

I especially like reading the newspaper The Framley Examiner. Published for the internet from Framley, an imaginary village in the English countryside, this local newspaper is pure fun from beginning till end (do not miss the classified ads!), with news such as : 'Mayor Lands in Moon', 'Dainty Gate Drags On - And then I woke up and it was all a dream', 'Too many circuses' or 'New CCTV system fails to entertain'.


La de buenos ratos que paso leyendo el periodico The Framley Examiner. Publicado en internet y en ingles desde el inexistente pueblecito de Framley, en el corazon de la campinia inglesa, este periodico local es desternillante desde la primera hasta la ultima pagina (y no os perdais los anuncios clasificados!) con noticias tan interesantes como 'Alcalde aterriza en la Luna', 'El Daintygate continua - Y entonces me desperte y todo habia sido un suenio', 'Demasiados circos' o 'Las camaras de seguridad CCTV son aburridas'.

Omega 3 fish oils : food for thought. Or, at least, it's what a new research says here. It works by making brain synergies easier, it seems. So then you think faster and better. It's worked for children in 6 weeks time..so I thought...well, I am 'almost' a child! Omega 3 fatty acids should work for me too! And I bought a Cod liver oil with enriched Omega 3 on Saturday (the liquid comes inside transparent pearls so you do not have to taste it, uuurrrghh!). I have not had any brilliant idea or discovered a scientific breakthrough yet. I'll let you know if it happens in 6 weeks time!


Omega 3 para mejorar la mente. Al menos, es lo que dicen los cientificos de este articulo. Funciona al facilitar las sinergias en el cerebro y hacernos pensar mejor y mas rapidamente. Ha dado buenos resultados en ninios que tomaron Omega 3 durante 6 semanas. Asi que pense...vaya, si yo soy la mar de infantil..una criatura, casi! Omega 3 seguro que me hace efecto! El sabado me compre un complejo de vitaminas con aceite de higado de bacalao enriquecido con Omega 3 (ya, suena asqueroso, pero viene preparado en perlas transparentes que se disuelven en el estomago sin tener que pasar por el disgusto de tragar ese liquido). Aun no he tenido ninguna idea brillante ni he llegado a un descubrimiento cientifico impactante, pero ya os contare los resultados en 6 semanas...

A very interesting series started in BBC1 yesterday. It's The Human Mind, where we learnt the processess our brain goes through when learning and how to increase our capacity for learning making things easier for ourselves. For instance, they showed an athlete who visualised her exercises before performing them and when she did actually performed them, she made no mistakes. Visualising is thinking, 'seeing' in your mind the exercise you are about to perform. Let's say I visualise myself making coffee. I have never made coffee, but I know the theory, step by step. I visualise..One, twice, three times...several times. When I finally stand up and make coffee, even if I have never ever made coffee, I have a very very good chance of doing it the correct way. They also mentioned if you visualise yourself exercising your muscles will slightly exercise, even if you are not moving at all, because everything is in your mind. How about that? I will jog, swim, do areobics, cycle and ride a horse without moving from my own sofa! Perfect!!!!!


Ayer empezo una serie muy interesante en BBC1. Se llama The Human Mind y, capitulo a capitulo, aprenderemos los procesos que sigue nuestro cerebro para aprender y tambien como aumentar nuestra capacidad de aprendizaje. Por ejemplo, ayer mostraron a una deportista que visualiza los ejercicios antes de realizarlos. Cuando finalmente realizo el ejercicio en las barras, lo hizo casi a la perfeccion. Visualizar es pensar, 'ver' en tu mente el ejercicio que vas a realizar. Digamos que yo me visualizo haciendo cafe. Nunca he preparado cafe, pero me se la teoria, los pasos a seguir. Y los visualizo. Una, dos, tres veces..muchas veces. Cuando al final me levante, vaya a la cocina y empiece a preparar el cafe, aun cuando nunca lo he hecho antes, tengo muchas mas probabilidades de hacerlo correctamente. En el programa tambien mencionaron que si te visualizas a ti mismo/a haciendo ejercicio, tus musculos haran algo de ejercicio, aun cuando no te muevas en absoluto, porque todo esta en la mente. Que os parece? Hare footing, nadare, asistire a la clase de aerobic, montare a caballo...y todo ello sin abandonar la comodidad del sofa de mi casa! Perfecto!!!
